- 1 ea Instruction Sheet
- 1 pair Nitrile Gloves
- 1 ea A5629 500ml Sharps Disposal Container with Lock Lid
- 1 ea Clinical Waste Bag + Cable Tie
- 1 ea non-flick Tweezers
- 1 ea Antiseptic hand towelette
Procedure of Sharps Handling:
- Do not attempt to pick up the sharp with your hands.
- Locate the portable Sharps Disposal Collection Kit (this kit).
- Open the portable Sharps Disposal Collection Kit and place it on a flat surface. Please note - the lid to this container is child safety proof and therefore may require effort to remove.
- Put on your gloves. Please take note - these gloves are only a precaution to prevent any body fluid associated with the needle and syringe from entering any open wounds that may be on the hands. These gloves will not protect you from a needle stick injury.
- Use the non-flick tweezers to carefully hold the syringe and/or sharp. Avoid all direct contact with the sharp and the syringe. Carefully insert sharp into the sharps container. Now repeat the process with the syringe. Please note - do not attempt to stick both the sharp and the syringe into the sharps container at the same time unless connected. Doing so will risk dropping the sharp, the syringe, or both. Once both sharp and syringe are inserted into the portable sharp disposal container, place the tweezers in and then replace the lind, ensuring that it is securely tightened.
- Place the used gloves and sharps container into the yellow clinical waste bag provided.
- Use the tie and secure the contents. Then dispose of the bag in accordance with Government regulations for your State or Territory.
- Complete an incident report form and submit it to management as required.
- Reorder your replacement A6228 Sharps Disposal Collection Kit.
If either you or a member of your staff should sustain a needle stick injury, or be exposed to body fluids, you may be a risk of acquiring a blood borne disease, including HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. If you known the person who used the syringe, obtain that persons consent and have them blood tested. Encourage the staff member affected to have appropriate blood tests at 3, 6 and 12 month intervals.
