For a general guide:
- ABE Dry Chemical Powder Fire Extinguishers: Suitable for use on Class A (wood, paper and plastic), B (flammable & combustible liquids), C (flammable gases), and E (electrically energised equipment) fires.
- CO2 Fire Extinguishers: Suitable for use on Class E (electrically energised equipment) fires. Limited use for Class A (wood, paper, plastic) and B (flammable and combustible liquid) fires.
- Water-Based Fire Extinguishers: Suitable for use on Class A (wood, paper and plastic) fires.
- Foam Based Fire Extinguishers: Suitable for use on Class A (wood, paper and plastic), and B (flammable and combustible liquid) fires. Limited use for Class F (Cooking Oils and Fats) fires.
- Wet Chemical Fire Extinguishers: Suitable for use on Class A (wood, paper and plastic), and F (Cooking Oils and Fats) fires.
